The UEA Story
United Equipment Accessories, Inc. (UEA) is proud to have been a family-owned company since its founding in 1952. What began as a small manufacturing operation in Vern Iserman’s garage in Waverly, Iowa, has grown into a leading name in the industry. Our original product, a remote control kit for operating truck-mounted cranes or excavators from the rear operator cab, included a key component now known as a slip ring.
In the early 1960s, faced with the challenge of finding reliable slip rings for our kits, we designed and patented our own line of electrical slip rings. Today, UEA is recognized as one of the largest slip ring manufacturers globally, known for our rugged and reliable designs, fully customizable to meet our customers’ needs.
By the late 1960s, UEA expanded its expertise to develop electrical transmission controllers for off-highway vehicles. These controllers initially combined electro-pneumatic control of hydraulic spool valves to shift transmissions.
In 1982, responding to market demand, UEA introduced cable reels, specializing in reels with five or more conductors for electronic applications. In 2012, we further expanded our product line to include hydraulic swivels, offering standalone hydraulic swivels and multi-media rotary unions by combining hydraulic swivels with our electric slip rings. Our hydraulic swivels are produced using state-of-the-art CNC, testing, and clean-room assembly equipment.
In October 2018, UEA acquired Alpha Slip Rings, a manufacturer of slip rings designed for extreme environments and applications with size limitations. Based in Austin, Texas, Alpha Slip Rings serves the oil & gas, marine, industrial, and entertainment industries.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, UEA finalized the acquisition of American Reels (American Reeling Devices, Inc.), a manufacturer of heavy-duty, professional-grade hose, cord, and cable reels of the highest quality.
