United Equipment Accessories (UEA) recently designed and built a custom electrical slip ring to be used in a rotating platform application. The features for this new slip ring include:
- (16)16A-300 VAC Power Circuits.
- (36)1A-24 VDC Ethernet Circuits (1GBps).
- Mounting Tube with Drive Tab (for retention).
- Stainless Steel Enclosure with Two Removable Side Panels and One Removable Top Panel.
- Anodized Aluminum Base Plate with Stator Mounting Holes (for retention).
- Designed for Inverted Mounting (mounting tube drive tab to top).
- Build toUL-508 Standards.
- 6’ Center Cables (RJ45 male connectors on Ethernet cables).
- M12X-code female panel mount connectors for brush side Ethernet connections.
- Terminal blocks for brush side power connections.
- Built to NEMA 4 standards.
One of the challenges that UEA faced was the requirement for 4-channels of 1 Gigabit Ethernet in conjunction with the power circuits. In the past, UEA has been limited to 3-channels of 1 Gigabit Ethernet due to the limitations of fitting the wiring in our 0.5”-1.0” bore slip rings. In this design, UEA used our 1.5” bore series slip ring for the Ethernet circuits. Collaborating with our Innovation group at UEA, we utilized our new wire brush technology in conjunction with our conventional slip ring core. The Ethernet slip ring was mounted and sealed separately from the power circuits to minimize noise and power brush wear from entering the Ethernet slip ring section.
